Ohene Consult is an independent education and mobility advisory based in Accra. We help Ghanaian students, graduates and teachers win places abroad, and the funding to take them. We are not a travel agency, not a recruiter, and not a law firm, and we take no commission from anyone but you.
Why we exist
The barrier is almost never ability. It is information.
Talent is distributed evenly across Ghana. Accurate information about how foreign admissions and funding actually work is not. Nearly every failed application we see failed on process: a missed deadline, a misunderstood funding instrument, a statement of purpose written as a life story.
The market has not helped. Advice is only as good as the experience behind it, and an adviser who has not been through the process cannot explain why a funded assistantship waives tuition entirely, why a doctorate is a research match rather than an application, or what a two-year home residency requirement will mean for a family six years from now.
We were built to be the opposite of that, and to tell you the parts that are not good news.

Independent
No commission from any institution, sponsor or employer. You are the only party paying us, so you are the only party we answer to.
You hold the file
Every account, password and document stays in your name. We have seen what happens to people whose agent held the login.
How we work
Six principles we do not bend.
“No” is part of the service
If a profile is not ready this cycle, we say so and set out what to fix. An adviser who only ever agrees with you is selling something.
Honesty about cost
Studying abroad unfunded can be the most expensive mistake a Ghanaian family ever makes. We model the real numbers first.
Your work stays your work
We do not ghostwrite statements or proposals, fabricate credentials, or sit tests. We teach you to make a strong case, then hold you to it.
We stay inside our competence
We are not lawyers. Where a question becomes a legal or immigration question, we refer you to someone qualified.
No guarantees, ever
Admissions committees decide admissions. Consular officers decide visas. Anyone promising you either is lying.
Priced in writing, in advance
Scope and fee agreed before work begins. Nobody receives a surprise invoice from us.

Ohene Consult was founded by Ebenezer Adarkwa Yiadom, a controls engineer now with Amazon Web Services, who did not come from the universities people expect.
He completed an HND and then a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Takoradi Technical University, not Legon and not KNUST, finishing First Class both times. He was told more than once along the way that a technical university qualification does not travel.
It does. But first he went to work in the industry Takoradi trains people for: offshore oil and gas, maintaining radar, GMDSS and emergency beacon systems on an FPSO and training other engineers on instrumentation. That work made one thing obvious. Capability and credentials are not the same thing, and the gap between them is almost always information.
Applying abroad proved the point. The information was scattered, much of it outdated, and most of the people selling help had never been through it themselves. He got through anyway, funding it through a loan scholarship he worked out on his own, to a Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, a town that takes close to two hundred inches of snow a year.

At Michigan Tech he served as President of the National Society of Black Engineers, worked as a controls intern at Nucor Steel, and ran control systems labs as a teaching assistant. That last role turned out to be the most relevant of all: walking people through something difficult, one at a time, until it clicks.
He is today a controls engineer in Richland, Washington, with one of the world's largest cloud providers, working on the data centre infrastructure the current generation of artificial intelligence runs on. He was rejected five times before that offer came, which is worth stating plainly. The version of this story where everything works first time is not true, and it would not be useful to anyone.
The questions followed. A friend's younger brother. A former colleague from the oil fields. A teacher who could not tell whether the message about working in America was real. It usually was not. Same questions, same wall of bad information, same capable people being told a ceiling existed where there was none.
Since 2022 he has done this in the open: WhatsApp groups, weekly sessions, more than seven hundred people, and for three years without charging any of them a cedi. Ohene Consult is the formal version of that work, built to outlast any one person's inbox.

The mark
Why the Sankofa bird.
Our mark is Sankofa, the bird with its head turned back, taking the egg from behind it. Se wo were fi na wosankofa a yenkyi. It is not wrong to go back for what you have forgotten.
Leaving is not the point. Going, learning what there is to learn, and bringing it back is the point, whether that means returning to Accra or sending capability home from wherever you land.
Every person we have helped has carried something back. That is the measure we hold ourselves to.
Boundaries
What Ohene Consult is not.
We state these plainly because the categories carry real regulatory meaning, and being clear about them protects you as much as us.
- Not a travel or tour operator. We do not sell or arrange flights, tours, accommodation or travel packages.
- Not a recruitment agency. We take no commission from any institution, sponsor or employer.
- Not a law firm. We do not provide legal or immigration advice, and we refer those questions out.
- Not a visa filer. All applications are submitted by the applicant, in their own name and signature.
- Not a designated exchange visitor sponsor. J-1 sponsorship comes only from organisations designated by the US Department of State.
- Not an agent of any university. We represent you, and nobody else.
